RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

Research environment

Based at the JAXA Sagamihara Campus, our research environment brings together numerical simulation and experimental work.

Research at JAXA / ISAS

The laboratory is located at JAXA’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science in Sagamihara, Kanagawa. Researchers from a range of disciplines work on questions in space science and engineering.

Explore flow and design through computation

Our computational work includes fluid dynamics, evolutionary computation and multiobjective design optimization. We visualize results to understand physical phenomena and inform subsequent simulations and experiments. Available computing resources and access conditions depend on the research project.

Investigate through experiments

Wind-tunnel experiments and measurements help us investigate flow physics and control mechanisms. Research uses laboratory facilities such as a low-speed wind tunnel and a vacuum chamber, as well as JAXA wind-tunnel facilities depending on the project.

Visit the laboratory

A laboratory visit is a chance to discuss our facilities and how research is carried out. Contact us if you are considering joining the lab or exploring a collaboration.
